Welcome to St. Paul’s brand new blog – and Happy Labor Day!

Since 1882, Americans have dedicated the first Monday in September to honoring the workers who contribute so much to our daily life, our prosperity, our comfort, our health and well-being.  Although there have been many developments in industry and commerce, and huge changes in the make-up of America’s workforce, we still rely on the people who do their part, day after day.  Not every worker has the same skills, and they certainly don’t all work the same hours, or in the same place, but every one of them is crucial to the smooth running of our nation.

The same is true of our parish.  As St. Paul wrote to the young church at Corinth:

“For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ.” (I Corinthians 12:12)

At all three services next weekend we will be honoring the work our parishioners do in the world by blessing backpacks, briefcases, laptops, toolboxes – whatever the tools of your trade may be.  We will also be honoring the many members of the Body of Christ in this parish, as we celebrate the start of our new program year with our Rally Day celebrations on the State House Lawn.

Every God-given ability, talent, and skill is essential to the work that God calls us to do together.  What is your God-given gift?  What part of the body of Christ do you represent?

Yours in celebration of the rich variety of God’s people,

Kate+
